Since 1881, Movado has been making watches in the village of La-Chaux-de-fonds, Switzerland. Throughout the first half of the 20th century, Movado developed unique and innovative watch movements and designs, such as the Polyplan of the 1910’s, the Movado digital watch of the 1930’s, the self-winding Calendomatic of the 1940’s,  culminating with the launch in 1947 of the brand-defining single-dot watch dial, known as the Movado Museum Watch, created by artist Nathan George Horwitt, the first artist to explore the concept of time as design.

The innovations continued throughout the 20th century, with the acclaimed Kingmatic series of rotor-driven timepieces, of the 1950’s, the Datron chronographs of the 1970’s, and the marriage of the single dot motif of the celebrated Museum dial to stainless steel bracelets in the 1980’s, creating a whole new extremely popular series of Movado models still being sold today, with their most recent update being the Movado SE range.

Ending the 20th Century, and moving into the 21st Century, Movado continued, and continues, to inspire all its customers with new, unique, and inspiration designs, representing Movado’s unwavering commitment to design innovation. Models such as the Vizio, Elliptica, Museum Color Dials, Movado Master™ and most recently, the BOLD collection, prefectly embody this commitment, while the series 800, the Strato, and the Museum Automatic have focused on technical innovations, as while all Movado timepieces are design innovations, they are also meticulously engineered to be technically and mechanically advanced, representing some of the finest watch making today.

Museums worldwide exhibit Movado time pieces, and there are many time pieces create by Movado in collaboration and commissioned from world-renowned artists, such as Andy Warhol, Yaacov Agam, Arman, James Rossnquist Max Bill, Romero Britto, Philip Johnson, Kenny Scharf to name a few, following the design spirit of Movado, and demonstrating the brands commitment to supporting the arts.

Through its ‘Future Legends’ program and events, Movado awards up and coming artists, musicians, and physical theater performers, providing exposure for them on the world stage, and helping to create the next generation of individuals who will lead us with their inspiration and creativity into the future.

In keeping with its innovative design and image combined with sector-leading mechanics and technical innovations, Movado has brand ambassadors that are themselves leaders and innovators in their fields, such as Hollywood actresses Kerry Washington, Amanda Seyfried, MLB star Derek Jeter, and internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture, Wynton Marsalis.
